PSU hopes to create the best environment for college football

The Penn State Alumni Association is once again stepping up its effort to create the best atmosphere in college football by enhancing the fan experience at Beaver Stadium. A major part of this effort is the iconic S-Zone, a lively student section led by the Lion Ambassadors, a group that coordinates 800 students to form a giant “S” visible from anywhere in the stadium. The S-Zone, which began in 1998, remains a staple of Penn State football games and has been featured on national television for its vibrancy and unity.

Complementing the S-Zone, the Blue & White Society distributes blue and white cocktail shakers to fans, adding to the electrifying atmosphere at home games. Twice a year, the classic blue and white “S” is swapped out for special editions: a gold ribbon for the annual THON game and pink and black during homecoming to honor Penn State’s original school colors.

This season, Penn State will host seven home games, including key matchups against Ohio State and Maryland. The Alumni Association will sponsor Senior Day, a celebration of graduating players, further demonstrating its commitment to enriching the student-athlete experience.

In addition to football, the S-Zone has also appeared at Penn State basketball and hockey games, highlighting the lasting impact of the Alumni Association’s efforts to build a unified and supportive fan base. For more than 150 years, the Association has played a vital role in fostering community and upholding Penn State’s rich traditions.
