AT STATE LEVEL–There is a website that Indiana residents can use to compare health care prices.

In 2020, state lawmakers passed a law establishing what they call an Indiana All-Payer Claims Database (APCD). This was all done to increase transparency about the cost of health care. The website collects insurance claims data from public and private health care payers to track the cost, utilization, and quality of health care across the state.

“Hoosiers deserve transparency when it comes to their health care, so they are well informed about costs and provider quality. This new website is easy to use and is a big step toward reducing health care costs,” said State Rep. JD Prescott of Union City.

According to him, it allows Hoosiers to look up how much other patients have paid for common procedures across different regions, providers and insurance plans. Prescott says it also aims to inform Hoosiers seeking health care, identify the state’s health care needs, support health care policy and improve both the quality and affordability of health care in Indiana.
