Woman films husband’s reaction to bringing home their new dog, which will be put down

There are few better tests of true love than measuring your partner’s reaction to an animal.

A video posted on TikTok by Kayla Windrow (@salvage.souls) has gone viral after revealing the heartwarming way her husband hugged a rescue dog she saved from euthanasia. Since the clip was posted, it has received over 824,000 views and nearly 200,000 likes.

“I know true love exists because I can bring home a new dog that would have otherwise been euthanized and instead of getting mad at me, he does this,” Winrow wrote in the caption. “It’s proof that your person is out there.”

The video shows Winrow’s husband calmly rocking the large dog in his arms, while another of his canines begs for similar attention.

Winrow had posted a separate clip of the dog, named Kanoa, telling a bit about her story and why she decided to rescue her. The dog was found wandering around an elementary school when she was handed over to an animal protection organization, Winrow wrote. The animal was scheduled to be euthanized just a week later after no one claimed her.

Although the couple already has two dogs at home, they decided to make room for one more.

“Something about her drew me to her and I knew we were her only way out,” he wrote. “She is a very sweet and well behaved dog and I can’t believe no one came looking for her.”

Viewers in the comments echoed Winrow’s passion for rescuing dogs and highlighted how she can bring couples together with this commonality.

“What a beautiful moment,” wrote @kellyjanex. “We already have (two) dogs and I wanted a third, I fell in love with her so my partner adopted her six weeks ago and then we went to pick up her sister on Saturday to look after her.”

“That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with my husband. We both have a passion for helping dogs. All four dogs are currently strays,” wrote @seashoreclams.

Winrow’s profile includes many requests to viewers in her local area to foster or adopt dogs from the shelter she visits, prioritizing dogs that are on the euthanasia list.

In the video describing Kanoa’s story, Winrow said: “Lives are at stake and shelters are in crisis. Innocent animals are paying the ultimate price for human neglect. They deserve a chance. They deserve someone to say ‘yes’ to them.”
