Marlon Wayans speaks with Local 10 before comedy shows at Dania Improv

DANIA BEACH, Florida. – Local 10 News welcomed a familiar face Thursday morning as comedian and actor Marlon Wayans brought his signature humor and energy to the Fresh Daily morning show.

Wayans, who is in town to perform at the Dania Beach Improv from Friday to Sunday, entertained Local 10 viewers with his quick wit and easy-going charm.

“I thought I was just coming here to answer some questions and now I’m working,” Wayans joked as he sat down with Local 10’s Alexis Frazier. “It feels good to be back in South Florida though. It’s always good to be back. It’s so much better than North Florida, I don’t even know where that is!”

Wayans, who is widely known for his roles in films such as White Chicks and Scary Movie, is no stranger to making audiences laugh with his sharp, observational humor.

Wayans promoted his upcoming Improv shows and discussed his latest stand-up work, including his recent Amazon Prime special Good Grief.

But, true to Marlon Wayans style, he couldn’t resist adding a little flair to the conversation. “You know, when I do a special, I take the set back,” he said, explaining that his upcoming performances will feature new material. “I did it, I said it and I left it there. Now I’m working on a whole new hour. This new set is great, man, getting a lot of standing ovations.”

Wayans shared that he is in a creative flow, writing and acting more than ever.

“I’m in a state of absolute clarity and expression,” he said. “I just want to keep putting out albums, you know?”

Wayans also made it clear that he has a special place in his heart for South Florida.

“It has good people, great weather, beautiful women… Who wouldn’t like it?” he said with a smile.

In addition to his monologue, Wayans also talked about other initiatives. He joked about his love of cigars and mentioned a local cigar event he planned to attend.

“I have my own cigar company, Legal Trident Cigars, so I’m fully dedicated to that,” he added.

While speaking with Wayans, Frazier couldn’t resist mentioning one aspect of Wayans’ family history: the 35th anniversary of In bright colors.

The sketch show, which became a cultural phenomenon in the early ’90s, was the launching pad for Wayans and his brothers, who helped create some of comedy’s most iconic characters.

Asked about the possibility of a reunion, Wayans did not confirm any plans but left the door open.

“Thirty-five years? I didn’t know it had been that long. I’m only 23!” he joked. “I hope we do something for the fans. It’s a classic and I’m proud to be a part of it. Hopefully we can all do something together.”

While a reunion isn’t in the works just yet, Wayans fans can still catch him perform live. His current show, which has been touring across the country, continues to generate rave reviews. “It’s fun to be out there making people laugh,” he said. “I love what I do and I hope everyone comes out to see me.”

Wayans’ visit to the Improv in Dania Beach promises to be a night full of laughs, new material and a few surprises along the way.

And for fans of his classic characters like Scary Movie’s Shorty, Wayans hasn’t forgotten the roles that made him famous.

“Shorty is still out there, loving life and cigars,” he said with a wink.

Before ending the segment, Wayans reflected on his recent projects, including a popular interview with NFL star Shannon Sharpe.

“I feel blessed,” he said, turning more serious for a moment. “I’ve had a lot of great opportunities and I just want to keep making people laugh.”

Fans will be able to catch Wayans at Dania Improv Friday through Sunday for what he says is sure to be an “unforgettable experience.”
