Osage County, Missouri man breaks state record for largest grass carp

OSAGE COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) – What a catch!!!

An Osage County, Missouri man holds a new state record for the largest grass carp ever caught.

That carp weighed an impressive 74lb 2oz, beating the old record by almost 3lb.

Frank Reynolds of Linn, Missouri, was bowfishing in a private pond on Aug. 12 when he shot the record-setting fish.

He says he stocked four grass carp in the pond in 2002 and believes this is one of those fish.

In a statement from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) confirming that Reynolds set a new state record with his carp, Reynolds said he knew he had caught a very large grass carp, but he didn’t realize how big it was.

“I had no idea it was going to be a state record,” Reynolds said with a laugh in a statement released by MDC. “So I’m surprised. People are congratulating me and it seems to be a hot topic these days.”

Reynolds plans to assemble a replica of the giant fish.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, this grass carp is the fourth state record fish recorded in 2024.
