Rockford Area Residents Can Design Their Own Neighborhood Signs

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The City of Rockford is announcing a billboard program in residential neighborhoods to promote pride within communities.

Groups can receive up to $7,500 to design a sign for their neighborhood entrance. To be selected, the sign must relate to the neighborhood’s culture and identity.

The City Council supports the program, authorizing a total of $100,000 for the signs.

The signs will be placed at the main entrances to neighborhoods and will be illuminated from the outside. They cannot be larger than 25 square feet in size and cannot be more than six feet high. Materials such as wood, metal or masonry will be used to construct and display the sign.

The designs must be shared with all residents and signed by the respective councillor before they can be submitted.

The design will also include complementary landscaping such as low-growing plants and other artistic elements.

All design elements must be included in the request, along with a detailed quote.

The preliminary application opens at noon on October 4 and will be approved on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. For the preliminary application to be approved, residents must have at least begun organizing and discussing the identity of the neighborhood.

Anyone needing assistance is invited to a virtual workshop at noon on October 10. For the link, email [email protected].
