Trump campaign offices in Florida were evacuated as a result of a prank device sold on Amazon

A “suspicious incident” at the Republican National Committee offices in West Palm Beach last Thursday prompted the evacuation of employees, The New York Times White House Correspondent Maggie Haberman reported.

While this was happening, police arrived to reports of a beeping noise being heard under a worker’s desk.

According to a West Palm Beach police report, three “beep-emitting devices” were found under desks on August 29.

Employees at the time feared that the five-centimetre-long devices were listening devices. As a precaution, police said nearly 50 people were evacuated.

“POSSIBLE LISTENING DEVICES WERE FOUND // BEEPING SOUNDS HEARD NEAR DESKS // INTERNAL SECURITY ALSO FOUND THE DEVICE,” the report states.

He also said that the individual who called the police “BELIEVES THEY FOUND ‘BUGGED’ LISTENING DEVICES IN THE OFFICE.”

However, the police report explained that it was a hoax and not an act of espionage.

The equipment found was a prank plastic listening device called the AnnoyingPCB, which can be purchased for less than $14 on Amazon.

“ONE DEVICE, UNLIMITED CHAOS: AnnoyingPCB is the ultimate prank gift or revenge prank,” the device’s product description states. “Simply activate the noisemaker and hide it. It will make a beep, squeak, or cricket sound at random intervals from 5 to 45 minutes. The perfect April Fool’s Day prank for your friends or coworkers!”

“COMPACT AND LIGHTWEIGHT: This annoying little sound device can be easily hidden in most places,” the description also mentions. “This little noise prank is discreet and hard to find. It is light enough that some unknown brand tape or a magnet will hold it in place.”

The report said security officials denounced the incident as a “prank.”

West Palm Beach police officials say it has not been confirmed who placed the devices in the office.
