Falcons edge Bulldogs – Sentinel and Enterprise

The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team defeated visiting Dean College on Thursday, earning a 2-0 victory in a nonconference match at Elliot Field.

Fitchburg State (2-1-0) opened the scoring in the 11th minute of action when freshman Justin Job took a pass from junior Brandon Gonzalez and fired a shot into the upper left corner for his first collegiate goal.

The Falcons doubled their lead at the 37:55 mark when sophomore Anthony Oliveira Dalicandro fired a shot off the bottom left post for his first goal of the season and made it 2-0 at the break.

After halftime, Dean nearly flattened the scoreline in the 59th minute when sophomore Nate Beturne got a shot on goal, but Falcons goalkeeper Alexander Carvalho deflected the shot to preserve the lead.

Carvalho made three saves to earn his first college win for the Falcons, who held a 23-6 advantage in shots.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Rhode Island College for a non-conference matchup at 11 a.m.

Men’s football

Monty Tech 3, Abby Kelley 1: Nathan Paryson scored a pair of goals and Gabe Santos added a solo marker as the Bulldogs improved to 1-1.

Leominster 1, Westboro 0: Brendan Aredes-Silva scored early and Isaac Chambass made saves to secure the shutout victory for the Blue Devils (1-0-1).

Women’s football

Monty Tech 9, Abby Kelley 0: Lily Mom-Uch scored a hat trick, Victoria Silva-Olivera scored twice and Kaleigh Fuller made four saves to earn the Bulldogs a 2-0 shutout. Alyssa Allan (two assists), Madison Pederson (assist), Sophia Carlson and Makayla Small also scored in the win.

Middlesex North 6, Marlboro 0: Bevyn LaMonica scored in each of the games and Olivia Peterson added a goal and three assists. Amelia Hamilton, Lillian DaSilva and Ava Valdabrini also scored for the Patriots (2-0), while goalkeeper Hannah Gruber kept the scoreless record.

Lunenburg 4, Gardner 0: Chloe Koziol scored a pair of goals and Savannah Parker (two assists) and Lauren King each scored once as the Blue Knights got their first goal.

Bromfield 3, Oakmont 1: Molly Horgan scored the only goal for the Spartans (0-1-1).

High School Field Hockey

Oakmont 4, Notre Dame Academy 4: The Spartans are 0-1-1 on the season.

Men’s Cross Country

Yesterday-Shirley 28, Narragansett 29: The Panthers (1-0) took the win when Ayer-Shirley’s Jake Leone finished first with a time of 17:40 on the three-mile course. Teammate Cole New was second with a time of 18:54.

Women’s Cross Country

Yesterday-Shirley 22, Narragansett 39: Carolyn Mason (23:45), Isabel Bresnahan (24:30) and Jane Marshall (25:09) finished second through fourth, respectively, as the Panthers opened their season with a win.
