Developers aim to build a huge housing complex in Bedford County

BEDFORD CO., Va. (WDBJ) – One of our hometowns is looking to give people more housing options.

A total of 184 homes could be on their way as developers push to rezone an area in the Town of Bedford.

The project includes new public streets, utility infrastructure, and required open spaces with amenities like parks, benches, and walking trails.

Developers hope this will offer more housing options and say it won’t negatively impact the existing neighborhoods.

However, neighbors are sharing their concerns about traffic and sewage capacity issues.

”We ask that you ensure they get a bond and keep it in place if you allow this to go through, which covers all the work that does not seem to get done on their projects for us,” said Governor’s Hill Section 1 HOA President Cindy Watson.

“We think that what we’re doing is probably the best use to get this property developed and to provide housing in the town which is really needed,” said White Engineering & Design, Inc. President Jamey White.

The planning commission did not vote on Thursday and plans to have another public hearing at a later date.
