When does daylight saving time end in Ohio?

The days are getting shorter again, but this November we’ll have a little more time on the clock.

Daylight saving time is almost over, which means Ohioans can look forward to earlier sunrises and sunsets.

Daylight saving time will end on November 3, when clocks will be moved back one hour to compensate for the advance that occurred in March.

The result of the extra hour will be an earlier sunset, as the impending winter months continue to shorten the days. Sunrise will also be earlier than usual, likely around 6 a.m.

After the clocks go back in November, daylight will continue to decrease until the winter solstice, which falls on December 21. This will be the shortest day of the year in most places.

What is daylight saving time?

Daylight saving time was given official statewide start and end times with the passage of the Uniform Time Act in 1966. Daylight saving time originally began on the last Sunday in April and ran through the last Sunday in October, but this was changed to the current schedule of the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November in 2005.

The first iteration of some sort of daylight saving time was in the early 20th century, when the Standard Time Act was passed as a means of saving energy in times of war.

When will Ohio turn back its clocks?

Ohioans will be able to set their clocks back along with those in other participating states starting at 2 a.m. on Nov. 3. Most smartphone users should see their clocks adjust for daylight saving time automatically, but other clocks will likely need to be set back manually.

What does the end of daylight saving time mean for Ohioans?

For many Ohioans, the end of Daylight Saving Time in November may mean an extra hour of sleep, as clocks set back to 2 a.m. will make for a longer night than usual.

Is daylight saving time beneficial?

The modern age of technology has made daylight saving time less effective at saving energy than it was in the past, and there are also studies linking daylight saving time to potential health risks. There has recently been an effort to make daylight saving time permanent with the Sunshine Protection Act that was passed by the U.S. Senate in 2022, but this bill did not pass the House of Representatives, so little is known about what the future might hold for daylight saving time.

When is daylight saving time in 2025?

Daylight saving time will begin on Sunday, March 9 for the year 2025 and will end on November 2.
